Digital Fishing Scales

Whether you are a hobby fisherman or an avid sportsman who participates in fishing tournaments, digital fishing scales are a must have in any angler’s tackle box.  With new technology, high tech doesn’t have to mean high cost.  There are digital fishing scales on the market to suit any budget.

Types of Digital Fishing Scales

While some tournaments and weighing stations may still use stand alone mechanical scales, the modern digital fishing scales available on the market today for personal use greatly resemble and function similarly to digital luggage scales.   The scales are handheld and are not much larger than a remote control, making it very easy to stick in a tackle box or have on hand in a car or boat.

Using Digital Fishing Scales

Using a digital fishing scale is a very simple process.  Simply turn on the power and hold to set the weighing function.  Next select a unit of measurement.  Finally, while holding the handle of the scale, hang the fish on the hook of the unit by the lure.  Make sure that the fish is completely suspended for an accurate reading.   To weigh a fish or multiple fish in a bucket, set the tare weight of the container first, then weigh the fish.

Digital Fishing Scale Manufacturers

There are a number of sporting good brands that manufacture digital fishing scales.  Some of the most popular brands are:  Berkely, Rapala, Norcross, American and Cabela.    Intro models range from $20 to $50 and can typically weigh up to 50 pounds.  For those that have bigger fish to fry, higher end models are also available that can handle weights up to 100 pounds.

Digital fishing scales make documenting bragging rights extremely easy.  They are a useful tool for both fishing tournaments and the casual fishing outing.  There are a wide range of models on the market that will fit any budget or need.
